The
plan to rebuild the Central Freeway brought our community together. The
impact of this structure (opened to traffic September 2006) on the lives of those
living, working and traveling through the North Mission will be felt for
a generation. Residents, merchants, and San Franciscans at
large who care about preserving a vibrant community in the North Mission
have joined together in the North Mission Neighborhood Alliance (formerly
McCoppin Neighbors).
Together, we are working
to make the neighborhood safe, beautiful and clean, a right of every San
Franciscan. The City and Caltrans must be held accountable to our community
since we will continue to be besieged by the blight of the freeway. Mitigations
such as trees, parks, open spaces, pedestrian friendly streets, and more
will only be ours if we stay organized. Our goal is to actively participate in
City Planning processes which affect our neighborhood, and make our concerns
heard. We will have a chance to meet and form friendships
with our neighbors new and old. We welcome and support members of our
community including local merchants, tenants, and homeowners.
